Topless

That's the view from our garage this morning. No need to turn on the light--Mother Nature is providing the lighting. The roofing crew has removed all traces of the old shake roof.

We actually think it might be nice to have a transparent garage roof--after all, it's always dark in the garage and there's no real reason you wouldn't want it nice and bright. Maybe someday they'll design houses with this feature.

For now, we await Day 2 of the roofing job. They'll be covering all those slats with plywood, which provides the backing for the new composition roofing material ( GAF Grand Sequoia in "Weathered Wood" ) . Then, they'll apply the "Forest Green" aluminum gutters and downspouts.

A roof, to me, is a weird thing. Obviously, you need one. But since I almost never see it, I don't really much care what it looks like, as long as it does its job.

Still, it'll be terrific to have the roof done. It'll be the first "finished" part of our big project--a kind of moral victory.
